Grey Fox

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this is true, maybe some of the trappers who are more educated than I am can answer...

I've read greys can climb trees to escape predators (such as coyote).

I've read reds cannot climb trees to escape predators.

I would think the red population would be decreasing and the grey would be rising.

But I've also read that reds are more "field" oriented foxes, and greys are more "woods" oriented.

So what is causing the decline of greys?

Love them Grey's

My father and grandfather use to catch plenty. Now it's a rarity.

I'll be releasing any Grey's that I catch, till I notice a rebound on my trapline.

My dad used to trap 30-50 greys a year and only 4-5 reds. My how times have changed!!!!

When you think of greys they are more in the cat family and reds are in the dog family

The decline in Grey Fox numbers started with the ban of footholds. Soon after the ban, encephalitis and rabies spread though out nj . The coons recovered, the Grey's did not
