I got some of my own and also in an office pool...I think we had $620 go into it.  I realize the lottery is virtually a waste of money, but I do it anyway.  It's like playing casino games that have a house edge...you are GOING to lose over an infinite time period...you're just hoping to get lucky in the short term.  Likewise with the lottery...you are just hoping to get lucky once! :)

I have 2 lottery stories. First was when I was at Lake George with my best friend growing up as his parents had a place on the lake. At a little after 5 pm the cabin two doors away erupts with everyone hugging and jumping up and down. They had watched the news and won $1 million. In those days circa 1980 it was an annuity.

Second time I had friends from Carteret I met through mutual friends. They won the Pick 6 for something like $3 plus million. Both quit their jobs, sat home with nothing to do (early 30s), divorced, and both are miserable to this day.

That's a lot of money which brings a lot of problems. Mostly of the human kind.

Yup.  And again, there's was an annuity.  They bought a home in town, quit their jobs, had no kids, and he played guitar all day while she watched movies.  There were divorced within a year.....you need to have a reason to wake up each day and something to do.  That is why I would sink all my time into "deer farming" and other wildlife habitat as well as maintaining the properties and raising our kid.  Then again, we're now in our 50s, so an early retirement has a nice ring to it.  :)

I worked with a guy who played the NJ Pick 6 religiously. He was asked to work overtime one drawing night and left a voice message to his wife to get their lottery tickets as he wouldn't have time to stop . Needless to say, the wife never got the message. His numbers came in and he was out 2.5 million.

It's amazing how many lottery winners are worse off after they win. It has ruined many people's lives.
