username
Any ideas on how to heat a garage? I have a 2 car detached garage - 20ftx20ftx10ft. But could section off half, if need be. Just finished building a reloading center, so not crazy about a stove. I am planning to run 60A wire out next year and was thinking about a mini-split AC with heat pump. But that is for later. Right now, I need heat. Anyone using: ceramic, IR, propane, ... Your input would be greatly appreciated. Has anyone used a propane convection heater indoor? Like this one at Home Despot or a tank top? Has anyone ever tried a wall unit or floor standing/portable AC/heat pump? Again, any ideas would be much appreciated. I have two lines to use (15A or 20A) @ 120V. Probably need 14k - 24k btu for the range of heat I need. No water or natural gas lines to the garage either. mikejd
I am going to put one of those blue flame units in my garage. I put one in my hunting camp and its the best thing I did. Can almost leave on pilot and keep the place warm. Zipper
Kype
i know you said you are not crazy about a wood stove. but they give off ALOT of heat and are very safe. completely contained because the door shuts. so you wont have sparks popping out like a fire place would without a screen. and tractor supply sells little wood stoves for almost nothing. you could even boil water for coffee, hot chocolate, or tea while your reloading. another perk is, firewood is always avaiable. ex: hook up with a tree service guy, or just walk in woods. sorry i know i am rambling on, but god i miss my wood burning stove. first winter without it...good luck username and George Rawson

Like I said best thing I did. I know have full control of the temp unlike a wood stove. It never gets to 100 degrees in there like the wood stove used to do. Also no work involved turn dial to #1 or 2 and heat comes out. username

BowhunterNJ
Mine has baseboard electric in the detached garage. I didn't install it, it came with the house when I bought it, but I can turn it on when I want it and it warms it up pretty quickly. Doesn't cost much to run it if you don't leave it running constantly (separate meter for the detached garage, so that allows me to monitor the cost easily). username

Zipper
Yep burning wood will keep you warm. Not from burning it, you'll be sweaty from chopping and splitting! username 1 "All men die, not all men really live". WW

Actually i do love a wood stove, however when you are dealing with small quarters control is terrible. And actually my dad who lives in the ADK and heats his entire house with wood including a wood boiler. Convinced me to dump my wood stove in my camp. Once I listened all has been easy and comfortable ever since. Even the poor guy on the top bunk. username
Cousin Brown
I ran a split system in mine. Heat in winter/AC in summer. username 1 Treestands don't demand, treestands don't complain, treestands simply ask me to sit down and listen.
Big Joe NJ
I like Mr Heater Big Buddy, plus you can get the hose adapter and run full size propane tanks with it. Its indoor/outdoor safe and use it in the winter to heat the house when we lose power. 18K BTU on full blast heats nicely. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mr.-Heater-Big-Buddy-Heater/19398780 username

Tucker dog
I am going to put one of those blue flame units in my garage. I put one in my hunting camp and its the best thing I did. Can almost leave on pilot and keep the place warm. I agree with the blue flame units. I put one in my garage 7 years ago and its great. Turn it down when not using and up when out there. I keep the dogs out there when wet and dirty to dry them off, swap out the motor in my jeep and was able to work in tee shirt. Unit has a fan to circulate heat out into room. I recommend them. username
Jerseybassnbow
I love wood stoves but a portable kerosene heater has worked great for me in the garage.
