Ithaca model 37 Turkey slayer?

LOL calm down Timmy...it's only been an hour and a half buddy!

If I were to do things all over again, I would probably NOT go with my SBE2 and go with a larger diameter bore gun.

The reasoning is primarily due to my patterning difficulties and the overall build quality of the Benelli.

With that said, the gun you are looking at looks good, but I don't know much about it or it's patterning ability.  And the specs don't show any bore diameters.

Interestingly, it is not listed on the Nitro Ammunition page with recommendations.

I definitely trust their recommendations in chokes and ammo (their custom ammo) because I've seen nothing but phenomenal results from them even with my gun that shot very subpar with off the shelf ammo and other chokes.

Might be worth giving them a call and see if they can provide a recommendation for that gun or add it to their testing.  Definitely will save you a ton of work and money.

And on top of that, again if I had to do it all over again, whatever gun I got, I would go straight to their page and go with their recommendations.

The amount of time and money you save trying other shells and chokes would be significant...unless you enjoy doing it.

Plus the money saved easily offsets the cost of their custom ammo considering how many shots you'll take on actual animals.

My .02 FWIW, keep us posted!

Using Gunbroker.com as a way to test the market for this gun I have the following observations:

What GA are you interested in?

There are less than 10 available on Gunbroker.com as of today.  A few of them are used.  New the 12 GA retails for around $825-$900, used is somewhere over $300 as most used sales have reserves and none have been met yet.

Sapere aude.

Audeamus.

When you cannot measure, your knowledge is meager and unsatisfactory.

From what I have heard by people hunting them is that it is an incredible patterning gun. My dad was at the range one day and the guy next to him was patterning a slayer. he needed some help so my dad helped him out. My dads impression was that it was an incredible gun and very much wanted one.

I actually have one I bought it about 15 yrs ago and have never actually fired it. I tend to do that. But the one I have is a little different then the one made today. Ithaca re vamped it as the first 50yd turkey gun.

It wasn't an hour and a half,it was over 14 hours with 37 views....Ha,it was almost all the way to the bottom so I just wanted to bump it up. I did a lot of reading up on it,I just wanted to see if anyone used one and what their opinion was on it.

I was looking at them on gunbroker too.... I think I'll take a ride to Jimmy Flynn's and see what he can get it for,he got me a great deal on a Remington 1100 20 Guage... As far as the Turkey slayer I'm looking for a 12

Thanks... From what I read on other forums about them, the guys all said that they have great patterns out to 40-50 yards

it's not necessarily the individual gun that makes the pattern, it's the choke and load combination. the best patterning shotgun i ever saw was my buddy's POS mossberg 835.  he happened to find the right load for his choke.  if you like the ithaca, go for it.  then sample some turkey loads and find the one that shoots best.  good luck.

Turkey guns might be worse than slug guns to find the right combo.  I say that because loads and chokes are two different variables and you need to experiment with both.  One load may shoot like crap until you change the choke or the load or both.  So it gets a bit expensive just like trying to find the right slug to shoot in your particular slug gun.
