Stripers, blackfish and seabass

Got an invite to fish with John today, first light we found our selves covered in acres of bunker that had lots of big stripers, we played catch and release with them for a while, there was so many boats out there it was insane, after a while  we went bottom fishing and caught a bunch of blackfish and seabass, it was a fun day with friends and family with lots of fish coming over the rail

Terrific. I guess the Marine Biologists managing the striped Bass fishery are doing a great job.

Too bad the keeper size is so small. The last time Striper fishing was this good there was a 2 bass limit and no min/ max size.

Was a pretty good day. Glad to see Brent catch his PB bass. Way to many boats out there for sure. Probably one of the most I've seen out there like that.

Good job guys! Was a great day! I started out 6am from AH. Ran around bay a bit looking for fish then to the east to Rockaways. Nothing. Ran to Sandy hook and worked beaches south looking for bunker. Finally found action by highlands bridge. Had pods to ourselves and put my son and his buddy on personal bests- both at 49”. Bunker started getting scarce and ran down to the northernmost edge of the massive fleet of insanity.  When we spotted bunker and got their first - instant hookups and then Fish Monger or 20 other boats would come push us off so headed back into RB around noon. Wish we snagged more bunker because Flynn’s knoll was really good action but only using bunker fished on bottom. Went through our 16 bunker on more fun size bass averaging 35" in fairly short order. In spite of good marks they would not hit Shad’s or spoons.  Did box one fish at 31”. Best part - we had the knoll all to ourselves!
