How to Confirm WMA Regulations

Hi! Relatively new hunter here. I was scouting for ducks the past few weeks and came across some spots I wanted to try out. Is there a way to confirm the kind of hunting that’s allowed at a particular WMA? For example, a guide told me that you can’t hunt waterfowl at the Pemberton Lake WMA but I couldn’t find confirm that anywhere. Thanks for your help!

I have never heard of not being able to hunt on a WMA, other than for reasons such as safety zones or the property is leased out to, say, a golf course or boy scout camp. But call DFW to confirm if you have any doubts.

Look at the DFW Explorer Map - the entire WMA is "hatched out" - that usually means restrictions. So the guide may be right. I don't know anything about that WMA, so I do not know.

Do they still publish those PDFs @DarthWaderTroj?? I thought DFW got rid of them (I couldn't find them anymore on their website). Although the online Explorer is much better, I do sometimes just like to have the PDFs on file somewhere.

I don't know, but I scouted that WMA when I first started and got all excited because there were birds everywhere and then I saw this pdf.

and now you know why there were so many birds  ... for little pea-brains, they are pretty smart -- they know how to read these hunting maps... "Hey, Daffy, check it out, I just downloaded this WMA map - says it doesn't allow shotguns... let's go over there"

Can’t hunt Pemberton WMA for some reason, there are signs posted saying this.  Yes, it is loaded with birds!
