Out of State Hunts?

Just curious how you guys who go out west or out of state to hunt handle the NJ restrictions of bringing a deer back in.

I hunt NY gun and even though I would prefer to bring the deer back to NJ and have my NJ taxidermist do the mount I do have a place to have it butchered and Taxidermied in NY. It’s an inconvenience, but doable, and for the right buck I pull the trigger.

But what about you guys that go further away? How are you handling this?

I ask because I may do a Midwest trip next year or year after and wanted to see what you guys do.

thanks

For NY, I found a butcher not too far over the state line and I plan to take any from that state there. The buck I shot up there two years ago I quartered and removed the spine and brains and brought it home to butcher myself. I have been surprised at what they get for a regular cut in NY. Most are $200 and up and that’s no specialty work.

Just got back from Wyoming with an antelope. No issues, had it processed, frozen then packed it in my yeti with dry ice. Was frozen solid after a 26 hour drive home. Took the head to chicks for a euro, no issues. Apparently the transport ban only applies to certain areas in NY; we checked with a taxidermist back home and that’s what he told us.

That’s not correct just so you know. NY actually has no CWD although it once did have a small outbreak, yet it is one of many states you can’t bring an intact deer (spine and brains) back to NJ from. I do not believe antelope are susceptible to CWD but could be wrong.

Congrats on the speed goat!
