Just saw on news 12 there was a protest in toms river to save the beavers lol, these people don't give up. One guy said "the beaver traps are very similar to bear traps they squeeze and crush the animal". That would have to be a big ass trap to squeeze and kill a bear. I'm not a trapper but I can't see that being true.

I wish all those protesters could have a family of beavers invade their properties and see how well they liked that. I had them on some property I hunt and they had 80% of it under water within 2 months. It took a few years of trapping to get them to move on and I hope they never come back. The destruction they do is more than anyone could believe without seeing it for themselves.

Our friends have property affected by these pests. Beavers have dammed up streams behind there house. The water is now backed up to within 10 feet of their back yard.

i have a question. lets say a few beavers jammed up a stream that was small enough to wade and break up the dams the beavers made. how long would it take for the water to reside back to normal, and how long would it take the beavers to re build the dams? or is it the case where, once the dams are destroyed, the beavers move on?

Kype, those beaver would start re-building that dam that night. and it would be back to the way it was in a couple days. The beaver have to be removed or they will not stop building. They maintain the water level to their liking and survival. Besides food, it's one of the most important things to them.

like njtrapper said they will start that night. I know where condos were fludding from beaver dams. they took out the entire dam with a backhoe. within a beek it was bigger then it was before they tore it down

Sometimes they begin rebuilding during the daylight hours.  It happened to my firm this past November on a stream restoration project.  It cost me two days of work because they dammed up the stream above us much higher than it was before the landowner (legally) breached their old dam.  That greatly reduced flows in the section we were working and caused me problems with building our structures.  Furry rodents and nothing but a PITA for my work.   :)
