And until recently with the warm temps and rains, I was thinking of how few we have been seeing with the drought.  But this mild, wet winter will bring them out in force.  I pulled one off my man parts not long ago and was fairly certain it was on less than 24 hours.  No bulls eye rash and no symptoms weeks later, so I'm not too worried.  I'm one of the few people I know that have never had Lyme disease so far.  But I actually expect to get it one day.  There are just so many ticks around here!

I hate them. Even when we get cold weather all it takes is the sun come out a little and you will find them. I even found them on my pant legs when it was 28 degrees out in the morning

hate ticks. i had lymes disease so bad i had hundreds of bullseyes on each of my arms, legs, and torso. and the bite mark was the size of a basketball which was on my back. my skin started rotting away at the bite mark. i started going deaf and eye sight was going down hill fast. only way i could get out of bed was if i pushed off my wall and rolled out. then had to crawl to where i needed to be. took hot baths, then cold showers. lost bunch of weight. i was on the verge of being in a wheel chair for life. nothing to mess with.

what happen was. i went paintballing one weekend. then about 2 weeks later my parents went to florida for 2 weeks. of course being the stupid high school kid i through a party at there're house. next morning i woke up and just thought i was hung over. well the next days were absolute hell. couldnt walk, couldnt hear, couldnt eat, drink, nothing. worst part was, i had to drive to leigh high valley airport to pick them up( how i made it there i DO NOT know). when i showed my dad the bullseyes everywhere and the one on my back we went right to the ER. when the nurse saw me, she dropped my shirt and ran out the room to get the doctor asap. i was put on pills the size of what the tick probably was, but it was a "take 10 pills today, tomorrow take 9, then next day take 8, and so on". worse little pills in the world. made my stomach hurt so bad, dizzy, wanted to vomit but couldnt pills.

all better now, where my skin was rotting away healed up, only thing is once in a while my knees, elbows, back, and neck hurt. i got lucky

DEET in my best friend. i could care less if deer can smell it. i dont go in the woods without it. i dont care if its dead winter.

If we all shower each day, they shouldn't be a problem.  The key is that they can't be on your body for 48 or more hours, but I use 24 hours as my cut off period.  If I have one on me dug in that may be on for more than 24 hours, I call my doc and get the doxycyline pills and do a 9 day regimen.  I have only had to do that twice and have been Lyme free for my 50 years, so maybe I'm lucky.

i agree. but in my case the doc said my tick must have been bedded in for days and since it was on my back, i guess i didnt see it while showering to pull it out or have it fall out with scrubbing. i know keep a shower mirror in the shower lol.

also remember you need to get the heads out too. if you pull the tick off and still see the head. just give up and go to the doctors. my docotor said if i get lymes again in my life time, i am doomed. i still hunt and fish. i will never stop that. but i make sure i am fully covered in 100% deet. smell gives me a head ache but oh well lol. and of course my shower mirror

Very, very bad this year. I agree.

The permethrin that is posted above seems to last for awhile and is effective on my brush pants for birds.

Kype, you are very lucky.
