I have a 1995 Yamaha Kodiak 400 4x4, this has been a very reliable machine and at 72yo I cannot hunt without it. All of a sudden the start button when pushed will intermitently not turn the starter. The oil light goes on and nothing then sometimes it starts no problems. I replaced the starter assembly on the handlebar and now it will not start more time than it will.

I took in the Hamilton Yamaha and they dont have time to work on it and say at least a month to get to it.  I NEED HELP FINDING A MECHANIC. Any of you guys know a mechanic who could help. I could pay or I WOULD BE WILLING TO PUT SOMEONE IN A GOOD STAND ON PRIVATE PROPERTY for a couple sits at deer on the farm I hunt  in exchange for the repair.

HELP HELP I am not hunting because I cannot get around without the ATV !!.

those symptoms will all happen when it’s too weak .

Dumb question, but I believe those machines also had a pull start. Does yours and does it fire it up ? If it does and it has  weak battery it will still start it. They can be a bitch to pull at times.

I would take battery out and put it on a load tester first before doing anything else.

If the battery is weak, replace it. If it is good it could be something as simple as a loose connection.

The battery has a full charge and is new,  machine starts with pull but that thing is a bear to pull.

I would still put it on a load tester to see if it's good. It could read fully charged and not be able to handle a load.  Had it happen before. I would eliminate that first

If it starts on the pull starter it most likely is the battery or a loose connection. At least you can use it in a pinch.

Do you leave it on a battery tender ?

Call the place in Gloucester. I know it might be a drive.

Go to quad forums. Might be something that points you in right direction.

Start simple battery under load then wires to connections. Could be a bad ground or corrosion on something.
