Wild Hogs

Recommended Posts

What's the laws on wild hogs.  My neighbor just told there are 6 wild hogs running loose in the neighborhood.  Apparently to this has been going on for months.  She just texted me a video of them less than a mile from my house.  I will probably call fish and game.

only in zones 65 and 55 (I think those are the two) 25 where you can legally shoot them (it's in the digest somewhere, I forget the details). But if you are truly seeing real feral hogs outside of those zones, you need to call F&G ASAP... even if they are escaped from a local farm, don't let them go feral. Have someone come in and trap them... F&G needs to know this.

Can I ask what deer zone/area you are? Curious if it's down here in the south where we have had feral pig issues in the past.

This is what I found in a Winslow WMA parking area a few years ago (z65)... I don't know how it got there... it might have been a "shoot and dump"...

This is north hunterdon county, zone 8.  My guess is that the hogs came from the woman down the road who had a bunch of pigs.  My one neighbor says he has seen them running loose for months.  I made the call and will update if I get a response.

They can become a problem faster than most think, they breed like rats and do a ton of damage.  Hopefully a callback results in a solution sooner than later

Well the state called me back and told me that there is no such thing as feral hogs.  It is a domestic animal and if I shoot it I will be charged with animal cruelty.  She told me to call animal control.  I told her my neighbor says they have been running loose for months.

A coworker at work gave me the contact information to a conservative officer to call.  Honestly I think nobody cares until this becomes a problem.

For the record I don't want them shot, just trapped and removed before they go feral.

WTH is that person talking about? They give you a number to call under the banner of "Feral Hogs - report damage caused by feral hogs" and THAT'S the answer they give you?!?!?

Then you better tell them the state doesn't know what they are talking about because this very thing was in our Hunting Digest last year... geez... no such thing as a feral hog?
