Today is my pups 11th birthday, so I decided we'd head out to the Flattbrook to do some bird hunting, we got to the flats about. 10:30 or so and got started, as we worked down a hedgerow, I hear a rooster cackling near by, so we head off in that direction as we where getting closer I see a rooster jump up out of some weeds and glide right into the safety zone. I go into this little cattail swamp and head away from the safety zone, as it was getting thicker I stepped out on the trail, the dog was still in the cover when it happend!!! POINT!!!!! The I see just out of shotgun range, one at a time no less then 6 roosters flush!! I tried to get into the cover but it was way to thick, all the birds made a bee line to the safety zone!!! I did not have any shots, we hunted around some and then went back to the very beginning of the safety zone, with my back to the sign, facing away form the safety zone, Attila finds 2 more roosters!! Both flush in side the safety zone, and turn an fly deeper into it!! SON OF A B@&$!!! Lol, they just know where to go to get out of a tight spot!! Don't they? Still all in all a good afternoon out.

We hunted another area with no luck, probably because there were no safety zones near that spot!!

Hunt with a Vizsla, cause life's to short to hunt with an ugly dog! :D RIP Tilly monster. (Attila) 2004-2017.

Doesn't sound like a good afternoon out. Sounds like a GREAT one, lol.  Putting them up on his birthday no less, very cool. (And on a non stocking day).  I will be up at the Roy Bridge or Hainey's Mill in the morning with my little guy, have not decided yet which spot. Only 1 more stocking after tonight, . It's funny how a bird learns how to read the safety zones signs at the tail end of the season!

He's done well this year, we found tons in just 6 outings, but it's just me and him and the birds are flushing out the other side of the cover not giving me many shots, I had 5 shots out of an average of 6-10 flushes a trip, missing 2 and killing 3. 2 hen 1 rooster. And we only had one trip that where we did not find any, all non stocking days.
