2 quick questions for the bow hunters on here.

First are there any ranges in northern nj that allow you to shoot broadheads?

second, what distance are you setting you sight to? Right now I have 15yds, 25yds and 30yds but my 25 and 30 pins are super close together. Thinking maybe I should make an adjustment.

17-30-40 are my 3 pin settings .

17 allows you to shoot plus or minus an inch from 10-25.

if only shooting to 30 yards I would have a 17 and a 30  no need for a third pin

Are you shooting expandables or fixed? My bow is at about 60lbs of draw right now. I could probably up it another 5lbs if need be.

From what I've been told, I'm right between the threshold for the two in terms of shooting speed and lbs at draw.

You're beginning to make this too complicated in your head. Stick with what you're shooting now and practice practice practice

GO with what you're comfortable with. I have a rule myself as i do practice often - i dont like to attempt shots greater than 30. There are those on here that will say they will do it as they practice often and thats their prerogative. I have multiple pins on my new sight that im sighted in up to 30 at the moment.

I had a 4 pointer i left walk two seasons ago bc he was about 55+yards away from me. At the time i didnt have the confidence to take that shot. Nowadays - that exact look i may have taken it.

My new sight has 5 pins on it - and honestly im gunna leave them there because you never know. No range will let you shoot broadheads that i know of

Set your pins to ranges you will be commonly shooting.

I typically set to 20, 30, 40, 50 but i shoot some 3d and for hunting can shoot out to 40.

I have practiced with and without broad heads.

The sight i now use is a 2 pin slider so I am good out to way past what i can take an animal with.

Some people like to have their bows fast and shoot 1 pin out to 30 yards. Others 30 is the farthest they shoot.

Keep it simple so when the time comes there is no confusion.

Pins at 20 and 30yds you should be good.

As far as shooting 60lbs, more than enough for deer.

Shoot a draw weight that is comfortable to you, NOT the guy next you, when it gets cold you'll be glad you are.

Shot placement is key!

1 Nope

2 less pins the better

A lot of us prefer 3-5 pins as opposed to 1 pin and believe it or not have been quite successful.  Bad advice Bob.  3 pins is about perfect. The first pin is good for 5-20 yards, 2nd for 30 and third for 30.  I would not advise a new bow hunter to extend beyond that first pin until has more experience.  But for practicing 30 and 40 will make him a better shot at 20
