Hey guys ! I can't seem to find a straight forward answer. A buddy of mine wants to come up and hunt zone31 doe day on Jan 9 and 16. We are trying to figure out cost. It's seems to me that he will have to pay :

136 for his non resident firearm license (which covers 2016 6day firearm)

AND

28 for his permit shotgun.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. This is my first permit season as well so I'm a little fuzzy..

He will need the following:

- 2016 non resident firearm license

- zone 31 permit shotgun tag

- buck permit only if he wants to shoot a buck. Note without this he cannot. And he cannot purchase it after he purchases his first permit shotgun zone tag.

Remember he can only hunt with 3 rounds, shotgun must be plugged if it's capable of holding more. Also obviously needs to wear hunter orange.

Be aware that the doe permits and buck tags bought now only covers what's left in January and February if applicable although the 2016 gun license last the calendar year. Of he wants to hunt during the doe season in the 2016 December doe permit season those would be different doe tags and buck tag. Pretty positive on this.

Yes that's a good point. His firearm license is good for 6-day 2016 and the remainder of the 2015-2016 permit shotgun season with a valid permit but he would need new permits for the 2016-2017 permit shotgun season. And once 2017 hits he will need a new non resident firearm license...same situation as right now.

And he cannot purchase a buck tag now. Antlered Buck Permits must be purchased by 11:59 p.m. on the following dates:

October 31 for Permit Bow

November 30 for Permit Muzzleloader

December 16 for Permit Shotgun

Compendiums are free and a very good read!

Really? I always thought you could buy a buck permit with your first XYZ season permit. I think those dates apply to when you bought a season permit but NOT a buck permit. You must get it by those dates.
