75 pound bear

I know your not supposed to shoot a sow with cubs under 75 pounds,   but how are you supposed to know if they are under 75 pounds?

You need to study known weight bears compare them to objects than you can use things in the woods as a scale to judge.  You will get close enough it really is no different than learning to estimate deer score or identifying ducks on the fly

They aren't going fine you or anything like that, bears are hard to judge. It's a management hunt, they would just like to let the cubs to survive for the future

If there 1/2 the size or smaller than the sow, don't shoot. Most sows don't go much over 200lbs

This is just a "feel good" on the books reg - not enforceable.   Shoot what you want, just don't check in a cub.  Make sure the bear you shoot meets minimum requirements and don't worry about who it's with...

Bears can be hard to judge.  First bear my friend got ,think it was the first one he saw in the woods , well he is screaming it was huge.   When we found it   It dressed 89 pounds.   
 

next one he got he is texting us it’s not as small as last years but not huge.  Well that one dressed 318.   Lol

 

I saw a mom in ny with 4 cubs  in early Oct.   She was bigger than my 660 grizzle quad    Her cubs   Well they were smaller than a spakle bucket

This is easy. I weigh slightly over 75 lb, so if smaller than me....no shot.

Do your best but it’s a stupid rule and how are they going to know the cub’s weight with the sow you kill ? I’m all for following the rules but I also don’t give a shit about stupid or impossible to follow or enforce rules

How could they fine you even if they intended to? Are they going to catch and weigh the cub to get you? It’s a stupid role design to please tree huggers

i was thinking the same  how would they know the size of the cubs if you shoot the sow,   when i hunted colorado they would look to see if the sow produced milk, and if she did it could be a fine, because she had cubs

Ok the first bear thought was 150 easy it dressed under 100 lb.here are a few bears not cubs but look small .
