The New Guy

Glad to be a part of this site. Found out about it after doing some hunting last week from @Bonefreak who was my guide and mentor.

A bit about me personally:

I live in Maplewood with my sons and wife. I am a mechanic at Subaru, and until recently was working LL87 & 97 2-pipe steam jobs mostly in Manhattan. I also run a boutique knife sharpening business on the side. I specialize in powder steels such as R2 and Japanese high carbon steels like Shirogami and Aogami. Clad and unclad. I can sharpen many but not all knives. Send me a pic. Kitchen knives are my favorite. 
 

Why I'm here:

I grew up hunting and fishing. To date I have lived and hunted and/or fished in (order) California, Utah, Colorado, Idaho, Texas, Washington, New York, and now New Jersey. I have also just fished fished in Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, and North Carolina. No my dad was not in the military. Lol. He's a dairyman for Schreiber and will happily complain about work and BYU football to anyone who listens. 
 

Currently I keep the majority of fishing limited to surfcasting. I run with Raul Ortiz. He goes by urban angler on socials. I have a lot of goals for this. I also love to steelhead fish, and want to start shad fishing again. I fish gear, and sometimes fly fish (never well lol) 

 

I've only hunted twice in NJ, so happy to just shut up and learn now. Picking my deer up in Hunterdon on Friday. Drool face.
