Bucksnbows
Reminds me that the box of cash we collected Friday night at the Pub 199 meet up is sitting next to me on the desk. Time to take it to the bank in the morning and send off a check to HHH for the $226 we raised. Wonder how many folks the antis are feeding?????? johnnyo8148
I think that is a great idea. I have no problems paying the processing fee anyway, but it's a good gesture and does show that hunter do care about others.
Glasswater Outdoors
Great. Another reason to keep pounding the deer herd through February. We finally have a winter where the herd can excel and grow in the spring with very few stillborn s and Bam leave it to the division to F things up more. Instead they should be encouraging hunters to put down their guns late season. rgw and FLEWTHECOUPE
rgw
I agree with glasswater. I like the idea of hhh but it just gives too many people the green light to just go shoot deer for the heck of it. FLEWTHECOUPE

Glasswater Outdoors
Dont really care if it is .2%. Don't kill what your not gonna eat. FLEWTHECOUPE
Haskell_Hunter
I agree with glasswater. I like the idea of hhh but it just gives too many people the green light to just go shoot deer for the heck of it. I understand where you're coming from, but part of me respectfully disagrees. On one hand you're right we need to preserve the herd, but on the other hand one of the best programs that brings us positive PR benefits. So how do we balance the two? I know that several UBNJ hunts are "first kill HHH", which I very much agree with. So is there room for HHH programs in high-density deer areas but not in others? Sapere aude. Audeamus. When you cannot measure, your knowledge is meager and unsatisfactory.
230jhp
Last year the HHH donation point at Newton HS closed in December. I don't know if it was because the school was closed over Christmas or something else. Anyone have info for this year?
Matty
I'm on the fence with this, leaning towards Glasswaters side. The premise of the program is great, feeding the hungry, who wouldn't want to do that. And if you have the place to take more does than you can eat, by all means, make that meat go to good use. At the same time, I bet there is tons upon tons of food that is thrown away on a daily basis that could do the same thing as well. I'm just worried this is a great excuse for people that just like to kill to go out and continue to slaughter areas that don't need it. My initial reaction was the same as Glasswaters... “I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target, but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature’s way of fang and claw and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow.” – Fred Bear
jerseyhunter
Another reason to keep pounding the deer herd through February. If people will "pound deer" they will do it regardless. I never took more than I can use and never worried about bone. There are some that are only worried about bone and maybe waste the meat. This way the can have their bone and donate. As far as hunting into Feb. There were a few years where I couldn't hunt early and relied on Feb. for meat. So I guess to each their own and they must live with their conscious if they have one. It's nice that those not well off can do some good and not have to pay for it. I can't hunt or fish due to health and wealth, but I would never kill just to kill.
