The second phase of the black bear hunting season will begin a half-hour prior to sunrise Wednesday, December 16 and will continue until a half-hour after sunset on Saturday, December 19 unless a harvest rate of 30% is reached. Previously purchased permits remain valid unless a hunter has harvested a bear in which case the one-bear limit has been reached.

 

Permits, including duplicates, are available only at agents using the web based sales system, and online (if purchased online allow for delivery time). Check with your agent ( http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/agentlst.htm ) to verify permits are available. A listing of agents issuing permits should be available soon.

 

Hunters should note only three check stations will be open: Whittingham, Pequest and Green Pond. See http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/bearchksta.htm for detailed information.

 

If the harvest rate reaches 30% closure notification will be on the permit hotline number (609-292-9192), announced on our website and via NJ Hunting E-mail list. A season closure becomes effective 24 hours from the daily legal closing time of the day on which the decision is made.
