The NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife today announced a four-day extension of the black bear hunting based on an analysis of data on the past week's harvest. The second phase of the hunt is scheduled to begin a half-hour prior to sunrise this Wednesday, December 16.

 

More information, including about sale of remaining available permits, will be available soon and list subscribers will be notified.

Wow! I can't believe yesterdays harvest was so low and that Troutandbucks bear was the only tagged bear to be harvested on Saturday. 

 

I really didn't think we were gonna see the extension. Second chance for a lot of people! Good luck.

 

I'm a little disappointed to see that the bear permits are not available now though. I thought they may still allow you to purchase leftovers. I was thinking about getting a permit for the extension...wasn't sure I'd hunt or not, but I was thinking about it.

Oh well.

^{Pretty neat it is extended as I was only able to get out Monday for a small window and had to work Tuesday thru Sunday but am off on Thursday. However it is supposed to rain like crazy weather permitting ill be out and about}

I feel like good karma just hit me .  haha i have been dying to harvest a bear.  This past season I haven't been scouting like I normally do because of overtime for my wedding coming up in November.  who would have thought a barn wedding in andover could cost so much money haha. with my nursing schedule i have off usually 4 days a week .  during 6 day i kinda winged it , i picked a wma by my buddies up in sussex , found a nice deep swamp and was going to hang a stand untill i gave up my spot to a father/ son combo which i met in the parking lot , never got their name i know first name was mark ( if your on here I was in the pickup truck , that explained to your son about the deer tracks and gave you the location, i hope he got his first one!) but now with another 4 days and I'm off monday, thurs and weekend, i think I'm going to drive up there tommorow and hang a stand and bait in hopes for a thursday/ saturday bear appearance.
