Bear Hunting 2015: What have I learned?

Well, the 2015 bear season for me is in the books. I was blessed to kill a nice bear on the opener and every year I learn something new. Here are some observations from my 2015 season:

1. Warm weather and a great mast crop leads to a banner bear harvest.

2. Bears prefer donuts to bagels.

3. Bears prefer crushed cookies to dog food.

4. Mix donuts with crushed cookies and you have just created bear crack.

5. Want to see bears during daylight hours...go to the thickest area where no one else will walk and bring lots of #4.

6. Bears can climb rocky mountains like squirrels climb trees....and can sneak up on you as quiet as an Indian tracker.

7. Bunker make great stink baits.

8. The creator of the Jet Sled is a genius.

9. It is sometimes easier to roll a bear downhill than to drag it.

10. Never drag a dead bear out of the woods without someone having a shotgun. Trust me on this one.

So there it is. Another bear season in the books for me and it was a banner one for 400+ hunters this year. Next year we get an early archery/muzzy season and I am already counting the days. World class bear hunt coming in 2016...hope everyone gets a permit!

Opportunity expands in proportion to one's courage.
