The inevitable miss. I know that feeling, I missed a 300 pounder a couple of years ago that I will not mention how embarrassingly close it was. It still haunts me to this day because it was the only real opportunity I had on one. You still have the afternoon.

I shoulda waited, it was a friggin chip shot too, I shoulda let him keep coming because he was going exactly where I wanted him to go. I am hoping he comes back later tonite, I'll go back out around 1.

There's an easier way to cut down trees than using shotgun shells.  Maybe not as fun, but just sayin'...

Oh I know how that is! Been there...done that...twice! Definitely happens and sucks when it does!

been there done that also, better a clean miss than a bad hit. but you still cant win, the bear group will love you for missing but the tree huggers will hate you now

I  did that once on a buck years ago. I fired and the buck ran off no blood or anything. I thought I missed. I was back in the same spot a year later when I noticed something irregular in a 4" sapling. I walked up and checked it out and there was my slug burrowed on the tree

Heck I had 3 deer run by me at 20 yds, 3 shots 3 dead center trees. When it was over I realized while pulling up my gun I bumped the front sight. Never happened again, lesson learned.
