So I headed to the range this afternoon and put probably a few hundred rounds through my Ruger 10/22 Takedown that I got on Black Friday.

Awesome little gun! I picked up one of those self resetting targets, and that was a blast to shoot.

I think the first thing I noticed was the trigger...honestly it's not very good IMO. It's not horrendous, but it isn't very good either. Lot of play, kinda of feels cheap. I can definitely see some swapping it out with something cleaner/crisper. It reminded me a lot of an air rifle trigger, lot of travel and just not really a distinct "break", just kinda spongy.

With that said have any of you swapped out your 10/22 triggers? If so, what did you wind up liking?

Beyond that, the gun cycled pretty good, did experience 3 jams though. One was on a rapid fire succession where it just didn't seem to drive the next round in and the action got hung.

The last one was literally on my last shot where an expended shell case somehow flipped sideways and got stuck in the receiver, was easy to remove, but obviously another round wouldn't have been able to cycle.

I also noticed, probably due to the stainless metal, the action is a bit gritty...I guess to be expected, it's new, it's stainless, and it's only a $300 gun.

Overall, I really had fun shooting it, looking forward to getting a scope for it and give it a better test of accuracy!

I have a Kidd single stage set at 1.5lbs ($200) and a Timney at 2.5lbs ($209).

I like the Kidd for precision benchrest and the Timney for field work, like bunny bashing.  Both are great triggers.  I have heard great things about the Volquartsen ($215) as well but their model is, like the Timney, not adjustable for trigger weight.

Both drop in without any problems.  Unscrew a bolt, pop a few pins, and you're done in a few minutes.

Out of the lot, the Kidd trigger is the way to go.  It is the cheapest and adjustable.

I would not buy the new Ruger BX trigger, even at less than half the price.

I have been tempted to try a trigger kit from Kidd and at $105, may just try for purposes of review.

The Kidd is the way to go.

I use Brimstone and love it!

I got the stage 2

I was torn between the VQ and Brimstone. I went with Brimstone because of RFC's reviews.

My next guns I am building for my girls. They will also have brimstone triggers, Whistle Pig Barrels  - http://www.wpgbc.com/default.asp?m=0

I will also get both bolts engraved with their names - http://jwhcustom.com/index.php/

I love my 10/22

Rugers are famous for having a heavy trigger pull. I like Timney but there are a bunch of other great aftermarkets available.

Treestands don't demand, treestands don't complain, treestands simply ask me to sit down and listen.

Sorry John totally missed this reply. Didn't read it when I revisited the topic today. I'm shooting the Federal.

Wow think I could have picked a bigger picture?
Just looking at it on my computer now, used my phone before.

Yeah that's why I have them...they were on sale.  I have like 2 more boxes of that, so likewise I'll blow through them.

Do you find any accuracy differences between the ammo brands?

Only Timney #510 in my 700's.  But why pay more, or about the same, for a 10/22 Timney when you get less than the Kidd?  Being able to adjust the trigger pull weight of the Kidd's 10/22 trigger makes them the winner for me.

Kidd single stage on the way! :) I had it preset at 2.5lbs.

Excellent stuff.  I cannot wait to hear how much you love it and indeed, you will.

Try bringing it down to 1.5lbs or less.  Very nice break, even at those levels.  A bit light for me in the field, but perfect on benchrest.

Good luck with it!

I think every gun has its favorite brand and loading as for me I can't be accused of over thinking things with my 10/22 cheap little

Red dot sight and while I have not tried everything out there CCI has never let me down but I do shoot what's on sale at bowling pins and soda I keep a mag of CCI 36gr. CPHP MiniMags handy for groundhogs on my place and never had one travel more then a foot or to from point of impact.

Only brand that gave me problems so far was Win. so I feed what I have of them to the Henry and will do the same with those Feds when I get to them since you had an issue with them.

I look for any CP CCI 22 I can find and add them to my order if buying from Cabelas, Natez, Palmeto State etc.

Yeah I've heard good things about cci. Likewise I'll have cheap plinking rounds but also want good hunting accuracy rounds. Makes sense like all guns, need to find what they like!

A friend of mine has a Savage with accutriger a nice scope and a few other things he did extensive accuracy testing with a ton of other brands and loadings and he found CCI Velositors to be the most accurate in that gun.

It's a boltaction so feeding and extracting are not the issue it would be with an auto loader he kills chucks regularly out to 80 yards with that thing.
