As many know I missed last year due to health reasons. Well, Im glad I am back!!! I put a lot of time in scouting my property and it finally paid off. Shot my 1st NJ Black Bear.... & I didn't even bait. After learning & scouting the area (for a few years) moving cameras like a madman , I finally decided hunt this piece of property. I set up 30 yards off the trail the deer & bears have been using. Had the right winds to hunt this particular set up and was sitting from dawn to dusk. I haven't been seeing much activity except for an occasional squirrel & a small basket 5pt on opening day. Tuesday was even quieter. Wed still not much moving but I knew patience was going to pay off. There are not a lot of deer in the area and the bears numbers are pretty good, sooner or later one or the other was going to show up. I figured they were not moving so much b/c of all the acorns everywhere. Well, 4:15pm I hear something coming...its a bear. He walks right in front of my setup, starts scratching his a** on a tree and lays down with his butt towards me at 30 yards. He just lays there eating acorns......I whistle and he could care less, yelled at him & he could care less....whistled one more time and he sits up broadside......Lights out! Got him right behind the shoulder! He claws at the tree then runs to his right where I shot him again. He only went 15 yards and let the death moan out. Got my 1st NJ Black Bear. Time, Scouting & Patience paid off.

Big Thanks to Highguy for helping lift him in the truck & Ms. Grit for offering to help also.

Big Thanks to Rednecks Pride also, who makes the best cover & attractant scent .

Treestands don't demand, treestands don't complain, treestands simply ask me to sit down and listen.
