That is a big bodied deer!!!!

Could be a NJ deer. I've seen a handful of them get that big here, even on public land over the years.

The one my brother shot on public land a couple years ago had a big fat slob body. 220# dressed...and that was in early October.

This buck was also public land: Almost killed him a couple times. I never saw him after that and was told by a friend that he was hit by a car the following year. By the time I checked, it had no head...so I couldn't be certain, but it was probably him :(  ....Body was even bigger than it appears, definitely over 200#....the log in front of him is massive.

There have been others...We can grow very big bucks here...at least in the Northern end of the state. Not sure about down South.

If that is a NJ deer, I do need something from you Matt....I need coordinates.

“I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target, but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature’s way of fang and claw and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow.” – Fred Bear

There are a few of them running around.  I killed a 4.5 year old pig in zone 6 that you could have put a saddle on.

It had a 20" spread and nearly 2 foot main beams.  It was probably the biggest deer that I've killed but sadly I didn't have it weighed or take a picture. :lookaround:

I don't get around NJ as much as I did in the past, my core area has shrunk. lol....

But I've always wondered, how many giant nj bucks are out there lurking around?

I know we have them. I've seen some. But how many are there?

Like how many huntable 150" bucks are alive right now in NJ? How many non-huntable?

How many 170+?

I'm sure the majority of them exist in areas where there's no legal hunting, but there are some in huntable areas too. They really are like phantoms though. Good description. Phantoms of the night!

I believe they use such small, secure little patches of cover that these giant bucks can live right under our noses and we never even know it. Driving around at 2-3am has proven that to me. They aren't wandering around like the average deer. They have their little hiding hole and they use it all day sticking withing 40-50 yards or so of their bed....somewhere no one ever walks....and then they treat the late night hours the way most deer treat dawn and dusk, finally getting up and moving to real food sources.

I always look at tiny little pieces of thick woods inside like highway ramps or behind industrial parks and think....does a NJ Giant live in there?
