man those things are accurate, first shot was 4" low so I moved it up, next shot was 1.5" high at 65 yds, I said perfect now let me take a follow up shot to make sure, my third shot I couldn't see where I hit, didn't see any new holes so I walked up to the target, at first I thought I missed on my 3rd shot but I kept compairing the first two shots and the second shot looked a hair bigger but not by much if any I reaaly couldn't tell, so I put some tape over the second shot and fired a 4th shot and sure enough the tape disappeared, I cant believe all 3 shots were damn near in the same hole, never have I seem my gun shoot like that. I will say it was off a sled not freehand

mossburg 835, I have never been able to come close to that, usually 2" groups even on a sled, I am a believer in those accu-tips now

My H&R has "lost" accuracy over time oddly enough.  It used to shoot Federal Vital Shock Barnes Expander 2-3/4" 1900 fps slugs great, but the last couple years those groups have started to spread.

Not sure why...if the barrel broke in, the crown got compromised, or something else.

They don't make the Barnes Expander version of that slug anymore, so I'll have to switch soon.

I want to get a new slug gun sometime as well, probably a Savage.

That's possible, these are "newer" boxes of that ammo and the "last run" of them.  I bought them in bulk (like 10-15 boxes not cheap)...and have been quite disappointed.

I blew through about 15-20 rounds (3-4 boxes) at the range the other day trying to get grouping under control.

The original 4-5 boxes I had were tremendous, cloverleafs at 100 yds, have taken deer out to nearly 200 yards with them (dropped in her tracks).

Now I'd be pretty conservative and rather not even shoot 100 with the combo...it's still killing groups there, but not what I would expect.

I'll try some new ammo after this season, chances are I'll be hunting with the xbow during 6-day or will use my ML.

I think something changed in the federal slugs. I had the same issue, shot great, than all of a sudden all over the place. I have found the 2 3/4 inch out of the H&R 12 shoot the best. The 3 inch shot good but the group was not as tight.

When it comes to slug guns, not two are alike.  What shoots great in my 870 may shoot horribly in your 870.  For each gun there is a good load or two that you will be happy with.  But don't go by either the load or the gun, you have to find which combination works best for you.  I always say that there are simply no short cuts with slug guns - buy lots of brands and shoot a box of each and then decide which one or two loads you want to hone in on.  And once you have that load worked out, buy plenty of ammo.

I used to shoot Remington's Copper Solids.  They shot great for years until I ran out.  Went to the store and bought more only to notice minor changes such as the shape of the bullet and the fact that the newer ones "rattled" just a bit in their shells while the older stock I still had a few of did not.  Sure enough, my groups went from about 1 1/2" at 100 yards to all of 3" and I was done with that round forever more.  I now shoot SSTs, but only because I couldn't try the Accu Tips that year because I couldn't find any so close to 6 Day and the Hornady SSTs I tried shot better than any round I had tried previously.  So I bought up a whole bunch of boxes and should be set for a bunch of years.

Accutips are definitely a good shooting slug, I use them in an H & R 20GA. In the right gun in the hands of a good shooter they can do amazing things out to 100 and are almost as good at 150..
