Started out sitting, as usual for opening morning, but didn't see anything.  Crop rotation changed my stands to evening spots.  I should have stayed in bed. Met the fellas at 9:00 and drove a mix of private and state-land ground - didn't see any other hunters on any of the public land spots (we checked for parked vehicles, if we see parked vehicles at the access points we just move on).  First drive pushed out a good number of does and some small bucks - no one who was in the places they ran too, including myself, didn't shoot.  Funny, no one felt like dealing with a dead deer on the first drive.

Second two drives yielded only coyotes.  Supposedly, a group of five came out of one of the drives, but everyone is such a bullshitter, its hard to tell.  But I did see a few and now might have to re-think my views on these predators.  Maybe.

I went to a spot over a cut corn field for the evening sit.  This buck walked out about 100 yards away and I shot it at about 40.  It death ran into a very small treed island in the middle of the field and catapulted itself about 4 feet into a brush pile.

I slept in Tuesday and we started driving again.  Although we saw lots of deer (and a few bears), no shots were fired.  We packed it in around 1 for a nice lunch and a few beers.

Cannot wait to start again next week.

Sounds like a great and productive two days. Congrats on the buck.

I usually do the same for muzzy but work was nuts this week.

Looking to be out on Monday for a bit and next Saturday. Good luck next week!

I miss the driving days LitteM, your description brought back  bunch of memories. My favorite place to drive will always be grandma's. Nice buck you got there.
