res3301 Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 March 17th (St. Pats Day). 10am at spruce run. can't wait to get this season started. Last year I went fishing with Salvador Dali. He was using a dotted line. He caught every other fish. -Steven Wright
flat9999 Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Never fished for pike, but may be interested. What's needed (aside from a kayak)?
res3301 Posted February 6, 2013 Author Posted February 6, 2013 Not much. Its just like bass fishing. A med. rod, 8-10lb test line, a short wire leader. I like to use black with silver sides jerkbaits around shallow weeds (last years) or any other shore line structure. The area around the boat launch is a good spot so a long paddle is not needed unless you wanted to explore other areas. Last year I went fishing with Salvador Dali. He was using a dotted line. Haskell_Hunter Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Do pike's like jerks over spinners or cranks? I usually fish bass with spinners and cranks with good results. Sapere aude. Audeamus. When you cannot measure, your knowledge is meager and unsatisfactory.
res3301 Posted February 7, 2013 Author Posted February 7, 2013 The early season bait I have the most luck with at Spruce Run is a black top with mirror/silver sides yo-zori crystal minnow (shallow runner). I have caught pike there on alot of other lures ie; spinnerbaits (white), mepps in-line spinners, soft plastic swimbaits. but jerkbaits seem to be popular with alot of pike fisherman there.
