Well? I started this on the "other" site with several other member about 10 years ago, it is a deer drive we do on peaqwest WMA the Friday of the six day season, I will try and get one of the others to come to this site, I don't thin Woj is here, anyway I was asked to start a thread.

What we do is drive the area around the trout hatchery as well as a few other spots, I can set the first drive but not the others, for that w need Woj.

Sign up here, what you will need is as follows.

Hunter orange of the correct amount.

A zone 8 shotgun permit if you want to shoot a doe.

Clothing that can handle thorns.

A shotgun, with " BUCKSHOT" only, no slugs will be allowed.

We would meet at the parking are along the peaquest River just off 46. At about 6 am.

Some of you here have done this drive, but for those who have not this is a well laid out and very safe drive. Oh!! And nubes bring the coffee and donuts!!!!

just curious, why buckshot only?  when i take people with me i dont want them shooting buckshot unless i know the pattern and limitation of thier gun.  i guess im just a one bullet one shot one kill kind of guy.  im not knocking your thoughts, just curious why

I participated a couple of years ago and it was pretty well run by the guys who had been doing it for years.  Got to meet a lot of members which was even better.  There weren't a lot of deer seen and only one was harvested in what I think must have been 20 guys.  There were at least 3 that I know of that were shot at and at least 2 of them were wounded but fled to private property and not persued.  I personally think buckshot is not given the same due time at the range as if you would shooting slugs when it comes to patterning by the average Joe.  Buckshot Vs slugs in a deer drive is probably just a matter of how the drive is organized, the cover and whether you know the people you are hunting with well enough shooting slugs to be safe.  Given that you are using random people that you don't know well enough buckshot is probably the way to go but I just don't like seeing so few deer and those that are seen being wounded and not being recovered.

Great event to meet other members and maybe the year I went was an off year.  May try again at some point but for now I will pass.

Great guys usually run it.

As to why for buck shot, nearly all the shots will be up close and personal, in heavy brush slugs are inappropriate. Thanks.

ever think about some of the northern state land and drive for bear also?

Ask the "other random guy" in the lot who was ticketed by the Co at Pequest last year for having the bear permit and the wrong Barrel. That will cost ya!
