I am hearing that the woods have been very quiet so far today.

Could the bucks still have does on lockdown?

We saw 8 deer this morning before 8:00am including 2 spikes and a 4 point. All were within 50 yards. My son passed on them. He was holding out for one of the bigger bucks on the property. In the afternoon, we saw another 11 deer including a very large 6 point that came within 70 yards and my son decided to give him the pass. So, we came home empty handed. We may go out tomorrow afternoon to a different property with the crossbow.

My 10 year old son dropped a doe in her tracks at 7:00 a.m. this morning. We had three come out in front of us. 40 yard shot with 20 gauge slug gun. His first youth day hunt. Just got his license last month. Was great to be able to share that with him. I'm a proud Daddy!

Thats a great day isn't it -- for both of you -- congrats

We had an early day today -- had to leave the woods early

Saw about 8 deer this morning but nothing presented a shot -- all cruising along at 80 to 100 yards

most where antlerless but had 1 broken rack spike unicorn traveling solo

We're thinking about archery for tomorrow too

Gonna hunt this week a few afternoons muzzy in zone 15 and bow in zone 8 -- all half days of school and we got the green light from mom to spend thanksgiving in the trees if we decide to

I didn't hear any shots today for youth day, not sure how they did around the state but where I was hunting it was quiet!

Congrats Leithal! And sounded like a great day for Tarhunt too, lots of action!

We hunted zone 15 -- property borders assunpink wma -- heard plenty of shots -- mostly 3 real fast in a row -- bang, bang, bang

We had to sleep in a bit because of a party last night but we were up in Montague after a Jumboland breakfast at 1030 I suppose. Over breakfast we had a plan in that we were only going to take shots to 30 yards for a big buck and does only up close. Anyway, we planned our hunt and hunted out plan so much. My daughter sat in the blind for 6 hours and by the end, prime time, she was itching to leave. I told her to hang on for 15 mins as they come out then more then any other time. It was a bit of a stand off but she stayed and we had a smallish doe come out at 28 yards broadside that she wanted to take but it was very close to last light and we agreed it wasn't worth it having already had her spike in the freezer.

Already long story longer the deer was off at 40 yds and wouldn't leave so we hit the car alarm remotely and it left only to come back as we left the blind. We crouched down and she came to within 6 yards but crossbow was unloaded and quiver was not next to us. Damn deer walked to the front of the blind and stuck its head in where we were moments ago. It came around the blind to within almost arms length before we shook the blind and it ran off 10 yards. We stood up and it came back. This has become out unshootable pet doe. Its either stupid or someone must have been feeding it out there back yard I figure.

Anyhow it looks like the team 3 youth duo had a blast regardless. Was such a great hunt and one we will ways remember. Long season left. Good luck kids and parents.
