Reading the regs it says that the bag limit is 2 antlered deer...noting about antlerless. I always thought it was okay to take does during 6 day? Also does that 2nd buck require  you to use your Permit buck tag?

You shoot the first buck you need to tag it.  You then get a second "stub" and can shoot your second.  The first needs to be tagged/checked prior to shooting the second.  You do not have to use your permit buck tag.  IF you shoot two bucks during six-day, your permit buck stub is no longer valid.  You can shoot does, zone specific, if you have a doe permit for that zone and it is permitted.

The way they write up the regs is so confusing. In the Reg chart every Set has the same description for Six day. No mention of does or doe permits at all.

Season bag limit is two antlered deer. However if a hunter harvests two antlered deer, he/she forfeits the opportunity to harvest an antlered deer during Permit Shotgun Season. Only one buck may be taken at a time.

I just was arguing with someone that told me he called up and spoke to someone at DFW to clarify his confusion and they told him if he wanted to kill a second buck during 6 day he had to buy a Permit Shotgun tag and use it for his second buck.

Right, you are talking two different seasons.

6-day is limited to 2 bucks and comes with your general firearms license.
Permit shotgun season allows you to take does (or a buck if you have a permit) and may overlap with 6-day season in some zones (therefore allowing you to take does during the same time 6-day takes place).

You have to check the regs to see if your zone overlaps, and of course you have to have a permit shotgun tag for that zone.

Yeah that's incorrect.  Firearm license includes 2 buck tags.  If you use both in 6-day, then you essentially cannot use your permit shotgun buck tag (assuming you got one).  If you didn't get one, then there's no need because you can't use it.

Ohhhh okay. Makes sense now. I was thinking that Permit Shotgun started after 6 day ended. In my zone it starts on 12/2 and it is antlerless only until 12/12. So if you shoot a doe during 6 day you are actually using your Permit Shotgun for that.

Exactly.  You are in a zone where permit shotgun overlaps with 6-day firearm.  You would use your 6-day buck tags if you shot a buck and your permit shotgun antlerless tag if you shot a doe.

Note 12/2-12/5 (since you can't gun hunt on Sunday 12/6) is permit shotgun and doe only.  Even if you saw a buck you can't shoot it then with your shotgun.

I can remember killing a buck at 7am on the opener then killing another one the second day.them days are long gone and the permit shotgun used to be 1 doe man we really need to turn back the clock the numbers are down I see more getting killed by bumpers then hunters the state needs to wake up

6 day has changed very little over the years. First off, does have never been allowed under your regular 6 day tags. Those are for 2 bucks only. The limit used to be 2 bucks but only one per day. Now you can shoot 2 bucks at the same time. If you want to kill does during 6 day, you'll need a zone specific shotgun permit and not all zones are open for permit during 6 day.

"That's a dead bear!"

Remember on opening day you would hear a shot and think to yourself "somebody just got their buck"? Now you don't know what the hell they're shooting.

This is when I loved buck week. Now I may take shotgun out once. I never get the permit. I just bring the bow

This is the one week that I stay out of the woods and I root for the deer.

Actually I'll be hunting a bow only spot on opening day.

Some things need to be left the "old way", as already stated. Buck week needs to be just that, for "bucks". I'm for change when it's needed but some things just need to be left as is, jmo.
