Me being a northeast hunter ( PA, NY,Maine) I always grabbed my 760 , 7600 1st.  Had better shooting guns ( browning  7mm, rem 700 280 mtn rife) but the ole pump just felt right for me.  Sold them all , but some great memories where made with them in my hand

For me it's my Weatherby Mark 5 in 30-06 for Pennsy. I'm considering dropping down to my 270 but she's mint. And the 06 has battle scars and memories. And 300 Weatherby Mark5 for elk etc.

For about 30 years I used a 700 BDL .308. Then I switched to a smaller Browning .270.  Now I use a Browning BLR .243 lever gun. It's just for whitetails in Pa.  The older I get, the littler gun I like. 

Just read an article comparing the 6.5 to the  243. Very surprised. The  243 did very well if used on certain hunts, especially deer. The only time the 6.5 shined was on long range shots because of the heavier bullet.

Something about Nosler Partitions that just kill animals. The nose disintegrates but the back end keeps going. 

I used 180 gr in my .308 in South Africa and killed 6 animals with one shot each.  My Outfitter in Newfoundland recommended them.

If I am hunting Maine & NH it will be my BLR 308 or 760 30-06 carbine, when in NC it's my Xbolt 30-06

Just a word of advice to those going on Guided hunts. The guide may not allow you to chamber a round till you are going to shoot. This can be a problem if you are hunting animals at close range. The sound of the bolt slamming on a pump gun can alert them. 

I learned this the hard way when I hunted moose in Newfoundland.

Pre 64 model 88 308 was my first pa deer gun took many many deer. It was a hand me down from my grandfather. So then I put it away to hold on to it. Went to a weatherby 7mm mag also took many many deer. Just last year switch to a Winchester model 70 264.
