Scope of Eligibility: Open to applicants who meet the requirements below.

Description: Under the supervision of a Crew Supervisor or other supervisory official in the Division of Fish and Wildlife, Department of Environmental Protection, performs various duties involved in fish and game propagation, growth and health maintenance, resource inventories, fish and game distribution, user surveys, habitat management and performs routine maintenance of buildings, equipment and grounds; does other related work as required.

Specific to the Position: The appointee will provide support in maintenance and upkeep of facility buildings and grounds, survey gear, vehicles/vessels, and other equipment; participate as a crew member for field survey and laboratory projects; conduct data entry/audit and assist with report preparation; support capital improvement projects; other technical and administrative duties, as assigned.

Preferred Skill Set: Experience with general maintenance skills, power tools, landscaping equipment, and light machinery (eg fork truck); good written and oral communication skills; ability to follow orders to completion of a task in given time frame; knowledge of or ability to learn fisheries survey and laboratory methods; knowledge of or ability to learn about commercial and recreational species common in NJ.

Requirements

Experience: One (1) year of experience in routine wildlife or fisheries management activities including habitat developments, maintenance, propagation and/or conservation.

License: Appointees may be required to possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and applicable
endorsements for the class and type of vehicle being operated.

Appointee may be required to obtain a valid New Jersey boat operator’s license.

Other: SPECIAL NOTE

Appointee may be required to wear a half-face respirator and complete an annual training course in respiratory protection.

Residency: All persons newly hired on or after September 1, 2011 have one year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey subject to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L.2011, Chapter 70), also known as the “New Jersey First Act”.

Authorization to Work: Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the United States per the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations. Note: The State of New Jersey does not provide sponsorship for citizenship to the United States.
