So close! Turkeys are close, but not close enough

I have been excited since the weekend when I saw the weather forecast for this morning - rain. Perfect for setting up on the edges of fields. So I get to my spot on the edge of a field, put a single decoy out and setup just inside the treeline. 8am and sure enough, four of them show up. But of course they show up on the OTHER SIDE of the field, over 200 yards away. I had a 50/50 shot of setting up on the correct side and I guessed wrong (I even thought about setting up over there, it was just a slightly longer walk - I was lazy and got burned for it!)

I watched those turkeys for over a half hour. I could not coax them over to my side. The ended up walking away and never fully crossed the open field to where I was. I don't know if they didn't like my lone decoy, or if my calling to them put them off (humidity this morning rendered my slate pot call virtually useless, so couldn't get a good purr out; I had to use a high-pitched box call, and for all I know my clucks sound like put-puts to them  ).

Tomorrow, I will set up on that other side and try again. And I'm almost positive they will show themselves in the spot i was in this morning :)

I'll get you turkeys, if its the last thing I do! (or Saturday hunting hours are over... whichever comes first :lookaround: )
