bear hunt contingency plans

(I'm staring a new thread - that other one went down the crapper. I'm asking mods to please keep this one on task)

OK. I'm calmer this morning. Rational thinking taking hold.

For those who were going/are still going to bear hunt - what are your contingency plans?

Here's how I see it play out, and what I plan on doing.

Unless magic happens this afternoon or over the weekend, bear hunt will not happen Monday. There should be a hearing late Monday. Assuming the pro-hunt attorneys do their job successfully (and I sure hope its more than the state involved - I hope our sportsmen/hunting organizations are allowed to submit briefs too - e.g. NJSFSC and NJOA) then the hunt should go ahead Tuesday.

Forecast continues to show rain all day Tuesday - so assuming that holds true, that day will be a washout. Wednesday, rain tapers off but still potential for a little rain rest of that week.

What does this mean? I means almost assuredly we will not reach the 20% quota that first week, and based on the rules of the game posted before this fiasco, it means the bear season will get extended from Dec 14 to 17 (Wednesday thru Saturday).

In that case, this actually will help me. At most I was only able to hunt Monday and maybe Wednesday that first week, but I now will be able to plan to hunt at least a good two full days in a row (16 and 17) with the possibility of me being able to hunt the 15th also.

I will still try to get out next Wednesday, assuming the rain isn't too bad.

The bad news is the temps look like they might drop even more that extended week, which means the bears are going to start disappearing. (This is clearly the plan of the animal rights extremists - delay through the courts as long as possible to give time for the bears to start going into hibernation).

Bingo.

I'm going to call it a washout mazz, sorry buddy. Here's my prediction. The bear situation complaints are only going to get worse in 2023. Fall bow hunt on the horizon

I'm thinking the judge is going to have a lot of data to go over and will probably reserve decision for a week or two.

Bull crap she already has fish and wildlife data reports from the biologist and she has the whole weekend to do her Evelyn woods reading

For us it pretty much kills our plans. We were going to camp Sun-Tue up north, but now we’ve bagged those plans.
I’ll just end up hunting locally near my home in zone 10 for deer on Monday. If the bear hunt does start later in week and even if it goes into the following week, I won’t have the time to go. Sucks, but it is what it is.

10 minutes to read pros and cons, but weeks to get kickbacks. Don’t worry Murphy will stick with his decision. He won’t get buffaloed. He running for President

Animal rights groups have no teeth in the decision . The don’t get to decide the season .

‘They pushed a technicality that the correct notices were not sent out before the decision .

the management plan has already been on the governors desk for 2 years awaiting his signature .

‘should be thrown out upon being heard .

NOAA or a sportsman group should file hunter harassment charges as well as file a lawsuit against th groups involved for losses of the hunt delays .

guys buying non resident license , taking days off etc . Plane fare the number due to this BS should quickly grow .

it’s not just about the 2 bucks for the bear permit .

total losses incurred.

all i know is all the bear activity I was getting and I was sure getting a ton- dried up once the first big cold snap hit a few weeks ago.  I think a majority are going into hibernation mode anyway, while it's ok to add bear tags to 6-day the reality is September and October are the peak activity months.     They should just add bear tag to general fall bow archery season.  Even starting with EAB - if you have archery license and bear permit, you can bear hunt.   That would only make THE MOST SENSE.

They don’t have the staff to man bear check in stations for six months. It’s a stretch to do it two weeks a year when we have the fall archery/muzzleloader season and then again for 6 Day.  I like your idea, but it can’t happen for that reason.
