NJ Bear hunt.

Well I’ll be hunting PA for whitetail and their bear season runs the first week as well.  Then I have a wedding for a cousin then finishing up deer season last seeking in PA.  That being said seems like I will be missing out on both deer and bear season in NJ unless I can get out for a afternoon or morning last minute.  Never know.  Good luck!

I was JUST going to post a very similar thread.

Yes! I DO plan on going up. At least Monday - possibly Wednesday, too. I am over 2 hours away. But I never bear hunted before, and want to give it a shot.

I drove up yesterday morning, in fact (drive was 2 hours 15 minutes, roughly 110 miles). I had off work and wanted to put in some time scouting.  I spent the morning scouting three spots (all in zone 3) that a couple NJWW members here graciously pointed me to. Found some great looking spots. The part that worries me (alot) is the drag. There are lots of hills, and in places there are thickets and shallow water to cross (roughly 12" deep - not quite to the tops of my rubber boots, but almost).

I would definitely need help with the drag if lightning strikes and I harvest one. I was going to post a thread (I may still do) and ask who would be available to help with a drag if a member here needs it? I know some folks are willing to give a helping hand; I might need your number ;)

It is beautiful up there in the north. Nothing like this where I hunt. Just being up there will be nice - I won't be disappointed not punching my tag, as long as I can enjoy this (this is one of my pictures I took yesterday at one of the spots):

At least 1-3 of us will be near you all 6 days and I have a quad with a game cart it hauls stored on our property. I also have the local CO’s cell number.

We have guys hunting .we all have the tag and will take if one walks in . I am on fence if I will pull trigger.  I think he waited to long guys couldn't  plan on going. Cold weather will slow things down as well.

The temperature's that week will definitely play a factor in the harvest numbers. Too cold and the bear will not be on their feet, it'll be slow kind of like Murphy when he doesn't listen to the facts of the biologists, should have been a fall bow hunt. Oh wait was that for before political primaries.:nerd:

I plan to be out in the field for the duration.

I have my permit for a bear, but will continue on my original quest to pursue deer only.

If a bear presents itself, and is in a good presenting position, I will take the shot.

If the bear is not presenting me with a clean shot, I will pass. Just like with the deer.

My original goal is to bring deer meat home, a bear taken cleanly is just an added bonus.

We shall see.

Jumbo's here not far from my house, sagedorn ironically where the president of the bear group lives in Glen Gardner. One made a mistake of walking onto the waliky farm before the season was closed.
