NJ Bear hunt.

I am curious how many here plan on participating in the bear hunt. If so, how far will you be traveling to hunt?? I helped two friends put up stands (both came from at least an hour and a half away) and have cameras out. The cold spell this past week really slowed down movement. However, with the warm weather this upcoming week the bears should become much more active. Got some pics, but not a tremendous amount. I expect both buddies to be successful on Monday. I have a permit, but probably will not kill one.

Do any of you plan on hunting all 6 days for a bear until successful??

I would have liked too but family schedule and work schedule hate me right now.  Lol. Currently have bronchitis so I got that going for me.  Lol no energy. I'm off that Monday and Friday. That Saturday we have a family function that day.

I'd be coming from southern Burlington county so 2+ hours each way.

Oh well. May be next year.

Not interested in hunting bears or I would definitely be up there this year after not having a hunt for 2 years. Imagine what opportunities would look like for a monster buck if there was no deer hunt for 2 years. Those in to bear hunting have a great chance to kill something big and as hunters that is a bonus.

I have Monday and Tuesday off that week and picked up permits for zones 4 & 5, but not 100% sure I'll get up there.

It's not so much the drive coming up from Gloucester county, but no chance to scout due to work/family schedule and more importantly how to recover the bear if I get one.

If they have it again next year I would definitely be interested in coordinating a group bear hunting trip with others from South Jersey.

To all that go out I hope you're successful!!

Tag in hand, decide at that moment if one shows if i will take it or not....I took my share of bears. Most of us know its hard work after the kill, and expensive.

110% correct cold/windy weather slowed them down, but increases movement will happen with warmer temperatures

I was JUST going to post a very similar thread.

Yes! I DO plan on going up. At least Monday - possibly Wednesday, too. I am over 2 hours away. But I never bear hunted before, and want to give it a shot.

I drove up yesterday morning, in fact (drive was 2 hours 15 minutes, roughly 110 miles). I had off work and wanted to put in some time scouting.  I spent the morning scouting three spots (all in zone 3) that a couple NJWW members here graciously pointed me to. Found some great looking spots. The part that worries me (alot) is the drag. There are lots of hills, and in places there are thickets and shallow water to cross (roughly 12" deep - not quite to the tops of my rubber boots, but almost).

I would definitely need help with the drag if lightning strikes and I harvest one. I was going to post a thread (I may still do) and ask who would be available to help with a drag if a member here needs it? I know some folks are willing to give a helping hand; I might need your number ;)

It is beautiful up there in the north. Nothing like this where I hunt. Just being up there will be nice - I won't be disappointed not punching my tag, as long as I can enjoy this (this is one of my pictures I took yesterday at one of the spots):

You are in the right area....if you put in the time, you should be successful. Good luck.

Looks like my territory, but I wouldn't be much of a help.  Post on the daily check in where you are when you get one and if I'm in the area I'll come help with what I can.
