NJ Bear Hunt to be Reinstated

I Do not miss the mandatory check in station hassles for even 1 millisecond.   I understand the need for them with the bear hunt, especially now with it being so highly politicized.  no doubt, data on all species is necessary & useful for the biologists & have no problem with voluntary check stations for those that want to provide data, socialize, etc.

One thing they didn't mention in the announcement that I hope they change... Check in requirements. They should do away with check in stations and allow online check-in. No need to let the wack-a-doodle protestors threaten hunters anymore. Hope they talk about that during the meeting on the 15th.

I never hunted bear but if I recall the last hunt they didn’t have the check in stations.  I heard second or third hand that they came to you or met up somewhere to check them in.

Yeah.. Here's the digest on it from 2020... Sounds good to me .. Still get the biological data to the scientists but don't have to deal with the political shenanigans at the check in station.

I’m curious as to if they do show up at your home how many guys got popped for violations of other things.  Like deer heads In the garage without tags etc.

Doubt they would be there for a raid just the bear facts.

they don’t enough people to be coming to each persons house. They set up designated spots and you go to the one closet to you .

So Murphy said “Since the outset of my Administration, I have promised to ground every difficult decision on the latest science and evidence in order to protect our communities,” said Governor Murphy. “From the data we have analyzed to the stories we have heard from families across the state, it is clear that New Jersey’s black bear population is growing significantly, and nonlethal bear management strategies alone are not enough to mitigate this trend. Every New Jerseyan deserves to live in communities in which their children, families, and property are protected from harm, and while I committed to ending the bear hunt, the data demands that we act now to prevent tragic bear-human interactions. We must responsibly adapt to the population with carefully regulated and strict bear population management strategies to ensure our communities and families are protected from the growing black bear population.”

To use the line from My cousin Vinny and change it a bit, that is a bulls417 response.  It's been clear since the 80's the population has been exploding.  We all know he called Jeff Titel and the bear hug group and told them first knowing they'd be apoplectic (enraged).  But I have to think someone who is a democrat came in to his office or called the nimrod and said plainly,  "someone is going to die soon from a bear and it will probably be a child and you will be FBAR".  In addition the SCONJ should've never let his EO stand because it was arbitrary and capricious. Can't wait for the protests at Whittingham.

Then they need to treat it as a biological research tool and not as a political opportunity for the wack jobs to vent their frustrations in front of the media and threaten hunters.

Thr easiest way to do that would be to have bear season run concurrent with deer season and close bear season when goal is reached so there is not a specific time frame for check in
