Told me it was a great shooter just too heavy for him

still a great shooter and I left it just the way he sold it to me and it’s not too heavy for me😁

Savage 220 is nice, light, tag filling hunting implement. A solid bolt action slug gun. The 212 kicks like a mule

I traded that 20 ga H & R to Cheyenne Mountain  I would never sell a bad one to anyone. I sold it cheap and it was a good shooter when it went bang.

For all you guys loving the HR I have a 12 that is gathering dust in my safe for a long time. 
I may have to put it up for sale. 
 

I went to a 220 newer model and I’m very happy with it.

Add me to that lucky list.  Never had an issue with my HR20. I bought both, HR for myself and 220 for my Dad.  Both are very accurate but others mentioned earlier, the 220 feels like a cheap toy and the HR is heavy and imbalanced.  Both kill deer just fine.

Does any one else shoot smooth barrel and use rifled slugs? I can't justify 20 bucks for 5 shots. I have an hr but choose to use the 1187 with Remington sluggers. As many deer as I shoot with a shotgun, compared the amount of sluggers I have, I should be good until I die.

If I needed a slug gun, the 220 would be on my list. I am happy with what I have now. A 12 ga semi auto.  If you have a decent slug gun now, I wouldn't buy a 220 as an upgrade expecting magical things.

The 12 wasn’t cheap it was going rate and you never mentioned any issues

I shoot a 1100 12 ga smooth slug barrel. Killed my share with it and my first ever deer with it many years ago. But I’m only shooting 1 oz slugs not rifled.

There  was never any issue with the 12 it was just to heavy and not balanced for my liking.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned the Thompson Center Encore or Pro Hunter, My two sons and I all have 12 gauges and I just bought 20 gauge for my grandchildren to use in the future, We’ve  had good luck with ours  very accurate and dependable, our guns and barrels are all from TC before purchased by Smith & Wesson
