Fish and Game new website format misses the mark

Guess they never heard the saying…if it ain’t broke …don’t fix it !

the old format was super user friendly and I think they won contests with how well it was constructed….this new site sucks and probably was a contract payoff to one of Mrs. Murphy’s anti hunter friends to make a sucky website.

I think the new site is actually quicker to navigate through .

much faster to find specific info .

I agree the site is easier to navigate and find things. Sometimes is hard for some to get used to something new. I think once you guys work the site a little and get used to it you will feel the same way and I doubt the Murphy's had anything to do with this site it is to nice for them to have had anything to do with it.

Anything new with a web sight has a curve.

The three click rule is what you want along with white space. I thought the new sight was pretty quick

Example - try to find regulations around CWD (try to find anything CWD related).

I figure - go to the deer regs... so from the home page:

  1. click "hunting"
  2. scroll down (that's annoying already - need to scroll past that annoyingly big picture and then all that whitespace and text to get to options) click "Learn more" under "Seasons and regulations"
  3. scroll down (again) and click "Learn more" under "White-tailed Deer"
  4. Look for anything CWD related... can't find it.

No idea where it would be now. OK, so let me just use the "Search" function... oh wait, there is no search function (at least, I can't see it anywhere - usually a search bar is at the top of websites that are searchable).

So now I have to guess, and poke around places to try to find it (oh, there it is, a link in the Deer FAQ page :whatever: - after guessing and clicking around)

There's too much scrolling that you have to do just to see the options that are available - they tried to make it pretty with all the big pictures and large amounts of whitespace, but ended up making it non-user-friendly. And without a search feature, unless you already know what page you need to go to, then its hard to find things.

The search is in the top right hand corner of every page :hmmmer:zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzxxxx.jpg.6fe04375d570e90874fc610a6198ffb6.jpg

I remember seeing that they won a best user friendly website in a contest a few yrs ago…& even may have won a few similar contests between DNR/State Fish and Wildlife agencies….I bet they don’t win any with this new garbage.

As for the “more you use it the more friendly it becomes”…I fully understand that…and as with anything…the more familiar you are with something, the comfortable curve goes up….but an effective and efficient …& expensive website shouldn’t have to rely too much on the …the more you use it…mentality.  They should take a survey and find out they should just go back to the old website.
