Rabbit Hunting in NJ still possible?

Hey folks, this is my first post here, and I’d like to start with thanking everybody here for their time.

When I was younger, I used to hunt rabbits in my buddies farm regularly. They were quite common, one could walk around at dusk for an hour or so and walk away with 3-5 rabbits pretty consistently.

A few years have gone by, and I find myself wanting to get back into rabbit hunting. I’ve moved to New Brunswick to continue my education, and was researching some good rabbit hunting spots. As I look online, a repeating theme that I keep seeing is “rabbits in nj are increasingly hard to find”.

Is this in fact true? Is there anywhere within an hour of New Brunswick/central jersey that’s still good for rabbit hunting?

If anyone wants a hunting partner, let me know. I’d love to learn the lay of the land, so to speak. Not just with rabbits per se, but with any kind of game.

Thank you very much.

There are more rabbits than you can shake a stick at in Bethlehem (Hunterdon County).  Should be a whole lot in the Clinton WMA property.

Know of any other locations closer to New Brunswick? I’ve heard the assunpink wma is good as well…

They thrive is our residential gardens in Hamilton, at dusk they are everywhere.

I’ve found problem is farming practices have changed now more rabbits in residential areas in gardens  and flower beds, now days as soon as a homeowner sees guns or hunters in orange they call cops right away doesn’t matter how far away you are, it’s harder finding those little pieces of woods with briars or fields to walk or run beagles
