Max123
Hey folks, this is my first post here, and I’d like to start with thanking everybody here for their time. When I was younger, I used to hunt rabbits in my buddies farm regularly. They were quite common, one could walk around at dusk for an hour or so and walk away with 3-5 rabbits pretty consistently. A few years have gone by, and I find myself wanting to get back into rabbit hunting. I’ve moved to New Brunswick to continue my education, and was researching some good rabbit hunting spots. As I look online, a repeating theme that I keep seeing is “rabbits in nj are increasingly hard to find”. Is this in fact true? Is there anywhere within an hour of New Brunswick/central jersey that’s still good for rabbit hunting? If anyone wants a hunting partner, let me know. I’d love to learn the lay of the land, so to speak. Not just with rabbits per se, but with any kind of game. Thank you very much. Sako76
There are more rabbits than you can shake a stick at in Bethlehem (Hunterdon County). Should be a whole lot in the Clinton WMA property. Max123
Greybeard
I see them mostly in spring. By fall the coyote, fox, hawk, bobcat, house cat, got almost all of them Bigmac and FeniQuest217 1
Rusty
Welcome to the site Max! Yes, rabbit hunting is still very possible in NJ. It's all a matter of location, there are lots of bunnies where there is bunny habitat. We have an abundance of them up here in Sussex county. bushden
They thrive is our residential gardens in Hamilton, at dusk they are everywhere. Eyesofthewoods
I think the rabbit population is up this year in Morris county at least. I’ve seen more rabbits this year then any year I’ve been here prior. Not sure if that helps but they are out there.
Bigmac
I’ve found problem is farming practices have changed now more rabbits in residential areas in gardens and flower beds, now days as soon as a homeowner sees guns or hunters in orange they call cops right away doesn’t matter how far away you are, it’s harder finding those little pieces of woods with briars or fields to walk or run beagles
Stealthy_Bowman
Just about anywhere in central NJ with good thick areas will have plenty of rabbits. I’d imagine Assunpink would be a good bet, probably turkey swamp too. In the other direction from New Brunswick, the Clinton WMA and the South Branch WMA are good bets and about 45 minutes from you. Max123
Thank you everyone for your advice. Are WMA's for the most part the best/only public places to hunt rabbits? If not, how does one find places to hunt besides WMA's?
