Hunting/Camping/Fishing trip

Looking to do a 2 night camping trip with my 7 year old next week.  I was thinking of heading up to Swartswood and fishing (from a jon boat) and do some squirrel hunting in the state park or on some of the local WMA's.  Any thoughts or other recommendations?  We live in Ocean County and I was trying to get far enough away and somewhere that looks different to make it feel like more of an adventure for him.  Thanks in advance.

I would say Stokes also. Has a lake to fish and some streams. Never stayed at Swartswood

Look at Kittatiny Valley State Park.   Tent camping but there are two lakes to fish, lots of trails to hike, and not too as far north.  The lake is a lot nicer thanks Swartswood this time of year.
Also a nice boat launch on both lakes(Aeroflex and Twin Pond). Your also close to Whitingham WMA(10 minutes) and Allamuchy SP.  They do allow hunting in KV SP but check regs.

Thanks, I have done a little exploring in Stokes before but nothing too extensive.

Any intel on fishing in that area that someone can share? Would we be best from the shore, canoes or I can trailer my 17’ Jon up there. He can cast and work a rubber worm for bass no problem, but he is 7 and catching fish of any size is still a pleasure. As most kids, he lives to keep and fry everything!

Thanks for all of the input.

A little closer to you check out Spruce Run Recreation area. Camping right on Spruce Run Reservoir. You can pull your boat right up to your campsite.

Now that is a nice feature

I like round valley more, sites are more seculuded. only way is walking 4+ miles or boat.  SR sites are on top of each other.
