toxo
Hi, I have always used gravity feeders. This year I switched to a broadcasting feeder. Last year at this time I had a lot of Does and 5 Bucks on my camera with the gravity feeder, this year I have few does and a small Buck that come by once in awhile. Do you think that the Deer prefer bait that they can easily get to like a gravity feeder where the corn is off the ground vs corn pieces scatter about on the ground? Bucksnbows
I’d switch back to the gravity feeders and see if that makes any difference or if you just have different deer around this year. Where I hunt, either one would just become a bear magnet. electric10162 and toxo 1 1 https://www.troutscapes.com/ https://nativefishcoalition.org/national-board
Booner
Putting a pile of corn or use of a gravity feeder let's the deer ( and other critters ) feed 24/7. I believe the deer are within 100yrds +- at all times. The bed then feed. Bed feed so on. Broadcast feeders force the deer to feed at your time frame. They don't wear watches so they do know 8am or 5pm is coming. They still need to browse though. They get trained to the sound of the feeder going off. Does it spook deer, I'm sure it does including mature bucks. This time of year with all the natural browse a broadcast feeder works with a smaller percentage of deer coming in. But once the green is gone in the woods and browse scarce,, deer run to the sound of the feeder going off. Put a food block at your feed site if you want lots of pics of feeding deer. But I believe once cold weather sets in is where a broadcast feeder shines. Mr12gauge and toxo 1 1 LET EM GO SO HE CAN GROW
Michael Britt
1) I've never seen a gravity feeder spook deer. 2) I've seen and others have also reported Turkeys coming immediately after they hear the motorized feeder going off and picking the ground clean!!! I have a freestanding 4-inch PVC gravity that guys on here mocked and said the squirrels would chew/destroy it. This is my 3rd season with it and guess what, no squirrel damage! I like the freestanding feeder versus a bait pile on the ground because bucks treat the post like a licking branch! Coons, squirrels,Blue Jays and Turkeys are picking the ground clean. There might not be enough to keep the deer interested. I have it set, once in the morning and once in the evening. electric10162
Before I planted plots, we used a 400 pound motorized feeder. We virtually bear and racoon proofed it. Deer hear the feeder and come running LOL, but so does everything else. toxo
mike033089
Could be acorns dropping elsewhere and that’s where the deer are. I know a few trees at my house dropped weeks ago toxo and Bucksnbows 1
FishNHard
I prefer broadcasting feeder makes the deer move around more offering a better chance on a good shot placement if you just have a pile and it comes in head on to feed it may stay like that and feed till done turn right around and leave,I have friend just put piles but they place a bunch of large branche on either side to force the deer to come around and provide a broadside or quartering shot. toxo
