I setup my stand about 4pm at the base of a finger of woods between 2 crop fields. I have been running a scrape in this spot for about 2 weeks with daily visits from both bucks and does so I figured it was a good spot to try to get myself an EAB doe. I refreshed the scrape digging the ground up some and hung a new Hang Fire scent wick and sprinkled some Scrape Inferno in the scrape. My climber is about 15 yards from the scrape. I climbed up and got myself settled after ranging all the likely spots around me. About 5 a flock of hen birds fed under me before moving off. At 620 I hear movement behind me, dead down wind. I figured it was another of the countless squirrels in there. I slowly turn my head and see 4 doe coming in directly behind me. Only 1 of the 4 was this years fawns which I thought was a little strange. The lead doe crossed my left shoulder about 5 yards from my tree bee and lined right to the scrape out in front of me. I drew as she sniffed the ground, She raised her head and started sniffing the hang fire. I released on a good quartering away shot. Hit a hair back but still caught some lung and bottom of her heart. She crashed around in front of me before getting back to her feet and running about 40 yards and piling up for good. It will be a late night for me but She will make for some good bologna and snack sticks.
