Planning to rent a lake house on Lake Anna VA soon. Have family coming from NC and SC to meet up w our jersey crew. Plan on bringing the kayaks to bass fish and I hear there are stripers in there. Anyone know the area?  Good bars, restaurants, etc?  Possible retirement spot??!!

When I lived in VA i was 13 min from the lake.  Havent been ther in about 4 years.  Nice clean lake.  Not overly developed.  great fishing.  And Islands scattered around that you can pull up to and beach, hang out and swim.  Absolutely awesome place you will love it I still miss it

Split….what is the best way to get down there?  I want to stop in my pals new burger joint….Graze to Griddle….in Culpepper VA…so I was thinking maybe swing out Pennsy TPK n head south on Rt 15 thru Gettysburg so we miss Baltimore and DC beltway traffic snarls??    I despise traffic!!!  Lol. I could only imagine what DC traffic will be tomorrow afternoon….but plan on leaving central jersey around 6-7 AM.

Leaving from Montville and heading towards the lake I would put the address for Scheels gas station in Chambersburg PA In my GPS and select no tolls.  This is a nicer route and avoids most major traffic and also makes for a nice halfway rest stop.  From there I put in my ending address in VA and again select no tolls and a nice scenic route avoiding most bad traffic areas.  As far as road names etc I have no idea lol.

I was just down there a few weeks ago.  Bass fishing is tough this time of the year.   If you are just looking to catch fish, there are a ton of catfish.   They were basically eating anything we put on the hook and they were pretty good size averaging 3-4 pounds.

I’ve gone through dc to get there and I won’t do it again.   I go out to Harrisburg and take 81 south.   Slightly longer distance for me but way nicer drive.

I wasn’t impressed with any of the restaurants.  There was a place called Tim’s that was ok and right on the water.   North end of the lake.

VA cops are brutal on speeding so don’t go much over the limit.

My son went with my sister in law last year this week. He said same thing he was slaying cat fish. Did get some bass but way more catfish

Awesome family reunion down in a lake house in Virginia!!  A few catfish and bluegills caught, late night beer Olympics, field day games, pontoon boat rentals, and quality time with family and friends!

Childhood pal surprised us with a visit since he lived close by!  And I surprised a high school buddy who just opened his first burger joint…Graze to Griddle…grass fed burgers in Culpepper VA!

saw deer and turkeys in some fields and saw some incredible farms on the way. Took the scenic route below Harrisburg to bypass the DC Swamp like @splitrockoutdoors recommended and it was an awesome ride!  Thanks Split!!

finally got to see Shenandoah National Park on the way home…beautiful!!  Could only imagine what it will be like in a few weeks with the fall colors!!

Could definitely retire in that area!!
