I lean towards wheat based bourbon's and whiskeys. They tend to be smoother less harsh them maybe a rye.

Lately been doing the James E. Pepper 1776 100 proof whiskeys.

Straight rye for Manhattans and bourbon for whiskey sours, either one for just a whiskey on ice here and there.

For coming in just under $40 bucks a bottle it's not bad at all.

Lotta good ones mentioned already.  I’ll add Penelope four grain.  It’s a good beginners / woman and children  bourbon. Easy drinking, $40 a bottle.

It's a good bourbon, but not worth $40 a shot.  That is to show off to the friends and the bartender that you have money you are willing to toss around in an attempt to impress others.  Nothing more.
