Pellet choice

What type of pellets u guys using for smoking fish beef and pork? I’ve been using Pitt boss competition. Wondering if I’m missing out by not switching pellets for each type of meat.

I had a few hundred pounds of different pellets.  The recteq brand pellets are good, but Kingsford has a variety of pellets to choose from.  I tried some of theirs and found them to be excellent.

I don't switch out pellets between cooks.  That's just too much work.  You have to clear out the hopper and auger.  So I just fill up the hooper with the next kind of pellet I have.

I've been using THE COMPETITION for everything it seems to cover all sorts of meats

I use the competition pellets for grilling but if i can find the hickory pellets i will use them for smoking.

pitboss competition here also from lowes. Wife got last couple bags from walmart even cheaper, not sure if it was a sale or not.

Traeger signature. An all around blend.  Anyone ever use other brands in their traeger?

Yes Sir! I have used Pit Boss pellets as well as others. No issues whatsoever.

I don't use a pellet smoker, but when smoking meats I use the appropriate type of wood to compliment the protein

Beef = mesquite, oak or hickory 

Pork = apple, cherry or pecan 

Poultry = hickory or pecan

fish = pecan

Yes I’ve used Traeger, pit boss and brand from Sam’s Club  and Tractor Supply (not sure of brand) and all have been fine
