Popular Post Buck154
Florida had it's 2 Red Snapper season this past Friday and Saturday on the Atlantic side. So I decided to fly down and fish with my Dad, brother, nephew and his son (they all live down there) Friday my brother and I were heading out with my dad on his boat 21' Key West with a 150 hp 2 stroke Yamaha. Went about a mile and it started to over heat. Wasn't pumping water. Was pumping good last week he said. So we kept shutting it down and got back and pulled it. So my brother and I ended up jumping on with my Nephew and his son on a buddy's 26 Mako. My dad told us to go and he would take care of the boat with a friend of his. We fished and kept our limit of one Snapper per person per day. Nothing real big, biggest was probably 13-14 pounds. Plus one smaller King Mackerel my great nephew caught (he's 8 Yeats old). Fishing was a little tough as there was a million boats out. We ran all over upto 20 miles out. I had a giant Goliath Grouper eat a red snapper I was bringing up. Always a big problem with them and sharks. 2nd day Saturday it was just my Dad and I in his boat. (They changed the water pump and cleaned the thermostats. Dad and I had a fun day keeping our 2 Snapper. We also caught a few small barracuda. My dad got cute little Goliath Grouper about 10-12 lbs (released). I got a nurse shark that was huge over 300 lbs. Biggest we ever got. Funny thing it had a male that would not leave its side. He kept bitting onto her side fin. He was smaller around 150 plus. After that my dad hooked a giant feeling shark on a bucktail. Few minutes into the fight it headed towards the anchor rope. So he handed me the rod and said have fun....lol. well about 8-10 times around the anchor line and almost 1.5 hours later. I gave the rod back to him so I could get a drink and straighten my fingers out. The 80 lb leader finally broke. Never did get to see it. We think it was a big Hammerhead. Wasn't a Goliath Grouper or a nurse shark. We had about a hour of none stop rod bending which made it a fun day. As always love seeing my family and fishing there. Will try to get back in the winter as the heat down there was crazy hot and Bad Humidity.
