Winchester 70 vs Remington 700

There is a reason that the model 700 was used as the platform for military sniper rifles. Most custom builds are based off the 700 action. The most recent 700 rifles hurt the reputation of the years of top quality 700s. IMO....model 70 isn't even close. Just go to a bench rest competition....

Yes the reason is they’re strong, economical, available and a sloppier action cycles better when dirt is involved(same reason AK is popular in military application). Not going to argue but cycle the action on both and let me know what’s smoother. Bench rest, military and hunting are three  totally different animals.

Exactly....and the 700 is tops in all three. If the Winchester was better, the US military would have used them.

I don't think hunting and military are that far apart.  When I'm in NH I am walking through mud, snow and pine trees.  Every evening when we get back to the cabin I'm picking all three out of the action of my rifle.  The worst are the tiny twigs that break off of pine trees and find their way into every gap on the gun.  I had the Weatherby out the other day and fond one I missed.

Sapere aude.

Audeamus.

Over the years the US has sent many of its fine young men & women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return, is enough to bury those that did not return. COLIN POWELL
