So we had our Bi Annual antique Sale last Saturday.....one gentleman and his son who had a booth there had replica handguns from the 60 's and early 70's....most of these are Japanese made and are very very reralistic,( after WWII the Japanese werent alllowed to manufacture any firearms , but they could make toys )  both in looks and actual weight.......my  uneasiness is they didnt have anything identifying as not real, and the one guy selling them is a retired police officer......I would think an orange plug in the barrel may suffice.....but was wondering what everyones thoughts are ???

IMHO in today's knee-jerk society to shoot first and ask questions later, I would never allow anyone to take those replicas outside of the home or into an environment where it created unnecessary risk.

A buddy of mine bought a .375 Mag replica back in the 1980s.  It looked and felt like the real thing, so I am very familiar with how authentic some of these can look.

Collect them, fine.  Give them to anyone to use in an unsupervised manner as a toy, no way.  I wouldn't even retrofit them with orange caps at the end.  They really look like the real thing and many are made out of metal, not plastic.

Sapere aude.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes... horrible idea, if you want something that looks like a gun, buy a gun. They're not toys. Although as a kid I had some pretty realistic looking toys.
