Ground.  Looks like raccoon got to them.

And using the oak leaves as a size reference, they are quite large.  Are the males of this species currently ducking and running from people in the woods making all kinds of noise with slate and stick?

Oh geez, what you want me just to tell you the answer?  OK, you can use GOOGLE.  Not turkey eggs.  They are large.  Good call on the oak leaf size reference.  Narrows it down to one of two species.

Were they near the rattlesnake (assuming rocky forest) or were they by water?

My guess is nuthatch.  Not enough spots to be a sparrow.  But these eggs might be too big.

Rocky forest.  Not waterfowl eggs.  Not passerine eggs.  One of two species.

Not sure what a buzzard is.  But I believe they are actually black vulture eggs.
